“If we do not allow trees to be cut, will there be a development such as Fort Bonifacio?” - Ramon Paje, DENR Secretary (Inquirer, 4/12/12)
I was very busy doing some materials for my work. But this statement put me into halt.
This statement and attitude deserves a lot of attention.
Do we have to see development as an opportunity cost to nature? Should there always be a trade-off? Why can’t this person protect the balance between development and natural resources preservation?
We do not have much virgin forest as we had before. And yet, this secretary promotes another destruction to that small piece we’re left with.
Secretary Paje should be reminded that he is the secretary of environment and natural resources, not of management and corporate world. And that the ENR in DENR is “environment” and “natural resources” and not “exploitation and nature ruination”.
Slaughtering of Mother Nature. IT’S NOT MORE FUN IN THE PHILIPPINES.
